A truly extraordinary place to stay.
This is the only example among the fourteen towers inside the walls of SanGimignano which has been completely restored and transformed into living quarters. The tower rises in the central Piazza delle Erbe, in front of the beautiful Duomo and the 'Tower of the Podestà'. Stay in the tower and abandon yourself to a timeless atmosphere savouring all its charm and fascination that seems to permeate from each and every stone.
Dating from 1200, it was erected by the Salvucci family and is the highest tower of San Gimignano at 48 m.
The detailed and careful renovation involved a complete demolition and rebuilding of all flooring and internal walls. The tower now consists of ten levels, one on top of the other, connected by an iron stairwell of c.120 steps with a width of 60 cm. Each level, with isolation from the c. 2 m thick external walls of the tower, measures c. 2,8 x 2,8 m. The entire tower has only four windows, two of which are on the third floor in the wonderful dining/kitchen area and the others are on the seventh floor in the room with the French bed.

From the terrace one enjoys a breathtaking panoramic view, on clear days, from the Appennines to the Mount Amiata. This juxtaposition of modern furnishings and the charming ancient architecture is a joy. The old town in which the tower is situated is off limits to private automobiles, though it is possible to approach the house for loading and unloading within the hours permitted by the authorities.
